The initial guitar riff for Highway Tune was cited by guitarist Jake Kiszka as being written as early back as 2010, 15 but the song, released as a single in March 2017, 16 17 was only recorded after Danny Wagner had become the bands new drummer. Hauck left the band in October 2013 and was replaced as drummer by the brothers good friend Danny Wagner the same year. I was still happy to see them, but I assured myself that seeing the Ypsilanti show would make up for it since they would be the headliners.Their debut single, Highway Tune, topped the Billboard U.S. I ended up enjoying Metallica's performance 100x more, even though I barely listen to them. The whole reason I went was for GVF, but It felt like I didn't even get to watch them perform. Not really their fault since they weren't headlining, but definitely added insult to injury. My friend and I were the only people standing up in our seats for as far as I could see (and it was daylight). Out of the 60,000 people there it legitimately felt like maybe 20 people were enjoying the GVF set. To add to the very anti-climatic performance, most people were there to see Metallica, so the crowd was barely paying attention to them which was a huge buzzkill. Just finished the song and silently walked off lol. Not even a "Thank you!" or something to wrap up the performance. When they were done they just walked of the stage without saying anything.which I found super weird. They played maybe 5 songs, but the entire thing felt super quick and rushed. I got to see one of their concerts with Metallica, and although they were technically just the opener, I kind of felt the same way. This is just a rant bc I'm upset, so no need to get defensive or downvote if you think it's "mean". I'm really sad and disappointed about the situation. I personally don't think I have it in me to try and go to another GVF show for a long time, they've jerked me around too much and it just sucks. They are still an up and coming band and are losing love from fans. It seems like as a band you would be doing everything you can to make these Michigan shows happen after fans were already let down in March and have been waiting for this date for 6 months. Obviously, we are unable to know the exact situation of why they had to cancel this time (since it was a vague PR team type explanation), but COME ON. The amount of money I have had to soak for this experience after trying to see them in concert for years is just insanely disappointing. GVF is my absolute favorite band, but I swear I don't know any other bands that run into this much difficulty and cancel/reschedule so many shows. they cancel AGAIN just a few days before for " logistical issues." GVF rescheduled the Ypsilanti show the DAY before, after most fans had already traveled and/or paid for a place to stay etc., and rescheduled for a date 6 months later (to a Wednesday none the less.).
